First Photo Session: Hannah, Summertime.

Yesterday I decided I needed to finally start learning how to work my camera. So my sister, Hannah, and I went to the backyard and down to the lake behind the house and took some photos. It was fun, but kind of confusing at times. I have a lot to learn, but I'm actually pretty excited about it! I really like it. I know that pretty much everyone and their brother is a "photographer." But it's something that I can actually see myself getting really into and maybe even being pretty good at...eventually.

Some favorites of the day:

Yeah, so...Obviously a beginner here! Ha. But, for my first real try, I wouldn't say I did...terrible? I dunno. Maybe I'm jumping the gun on that statement, but I have to say, I was pretty happy with how they all turned out. (I'm sure as I improve I'll look back on these and find multiple flaws with my work, ha.) In editing, I did notice things that I never would have before...Unappealing shadows, too much light, blahblahblah.

Mostly, it was just really fun spending time with Han. She really loved them, so that's what's most important to me. :)

I'm still accepting and much appreciating constructive criticism, though! If you have any tips, thoughts, or opinions...please share! I'd really love to know what you think about these, and what I may be able to improve on.

P.S. Hannah's super cool haircut? Yeah, uhhh, courtesy of moi...because I'm decent. Or maybe she just makes it look good... :)

  5. you framed these really well :) i like!
my tip: ALWAYS shoot in manual. that's the quickest way to learn! also...if it's super bright out make sure your ISO is on the lowest setting...100-200...that'll smooth out your pictures and set a quick shutter speed!

  6. thanks so much, ladies!
    you're all so helpful.

rachel: i shot mostly in manual. it was my first time using it. i'm such a beginner...i thought auto and manual were the same up until a few days ago. haha. thanks for the ISO tip. i'll be sure to remember that! :)

  7. no problem! just to clarify...setting a quicker shutter speed is separate from the ISO. ha...for some reason that sentence sounds weird to me the way i worded it.

photography is so much fun. i have been taking pictures for several years but it wasn't until the last couple of years that I started shooting on manual only after a friend encouraged me to know my camera! haha...it definitely takes alot of practice and if you ever have a moment look through the manual your camera came with!
