making a home.

This is really weird, I know, but I've never really made a "home" in any of the places we've lived. Nope, not once in the past 3 years. There are a few reasons: laziness, having a husband who doesn't think that kind of stuff is important, and maybe a little of not feeling like it is, in fact, home.

I'm trying to do things differently this time around, though. While this house doesn't really feel like home to me either, it just felt like it was time to change...make it feel that way. So, a couple of weeks ago I put together this little area in the living room. It's not finished yet, but getting there. It does make the house feel much more "homey", which is fun.

I'll probably continue sharing little looks into our home as I make more progress. So, hopefully soon!

miss independent/wide open spaces/all i can think of are cheesy song titles.

We moved into a new place a couple of weeks ago. I don't even know if I've really mentioned that yet.

So, yeah, we moved.

The loft was really cool and fun while it lasted, but it wasn't really the best place for us to be. My biggest "issue" with leaving was how we would handle the lack of space. I'm not sure about the square footage of the loft, but the living area was huge, which meant Tatum had tons of room to run around and play.
I was pretty worried about moving into a smaller (and by smaller, I mean smallllerrrr) space and how she would handle it.
You guys, I seriously cried about it.
Mom guilt hits you in weird ways sometimes. Clearly.

Leave it to T to handle it like a total champ. (Thanks, dude!) She really doesn't even care. I should've known...She's always been really great at adapting, and change has never seemed to affect her in the slightest; this time was no different. (I know I sound like an annoying, braggy mom, but hey, I just give credit where it's due.)

I'm glad she still has that freedom to roam here.

She's such an independent little kid.
In that second picture, you can totally tell she's like, "Privacy please!"

a new home.

We moved into our new place last week; a beautiful loft in downtown Springfield. I feel so blessed that we found such a great place to call home for (at least) the next year.

Beautiful hardwood floors throughout...
Exposed brick in the living area + both bedrooms...
A baby grand piano (the landlord requested to keep it here. yes, please!)...
Sliding barn doors to cover the big windows in the living area...
Great lighting...
Space, lots + lots of space...

So far, the only "negative" I've been able to find is the creaking + cracking this old building does, but that is, of course, to be expected. I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me jump occasionally, though!

I'd say we're all pretty happy here, including Tatum. She loves it. In our previous house, she had very little room to run around. Here, she is all over the place. There is really nowhere she can't go. We keep all doors shut and the kitchen baby proofed...the rest is hers. It seems like she's been having more fun since the move. And that's great, because a happy baby = happy parents.

Feeling so grateful for this fresh start!
