a valentine's day story.

In the sixth grade I had my first "relationship." It was pretty serious. Justin and I began our whirlwind of romance in August, right after school started. Love at first sight, hellloooo. He was my best friend. We talked on the phone every single day and spent all of our recesses together. Duh. On Christmas, he got me a present, a stuffed koala. I was totally shocked and kind of embarrassed, because I didn't have anything to give him in return. This was all so new to me!

When Valentine's Day rolled around, I knew this was the time for me to redeem myself and make up for the Christmas present debacle. My mom took me to Wal-Mart, and I picked out the perfect gift: a stuffed frog with a red crown on his head + a big red heart in his arms. (Obviously, I've always been the ultimate gift-giver...)

The next day was Valentine's Day, and I was so nervous to see Justin and give him his present. What if he thought it was stupid? (It was.) What if he laughed at me? (Who wouldn't...) Despite my fears, I toted that little green frog along in my backpack to school. Sweet little Lydia, so naive.

First recess rolled around, but my plan wasn't to give him his present 'til lunch recess. Thank goodness. Otherwise this day could have been much more awkward...Because at first recess, Justin broke up with me for Kristen*. KRISTEN?! Yes, guys. I know. I couldn't believe it, either.

Justin and I are still friends. In case anyone was wondering.

*I'm pretty sure it was a couple of days after this that she threw a chicken nugget at me on the playground. Seriously? Who saves a chicken nugget from their lunch to use as a weapon? Kristen, that's who.

  9. How many times do I have to apologize? lol.

I was a little kid! I had no idea what a "relationship" was! If it makes you feel any better, leaving you for her made me look like a complete idiot. I mean....just look at her. Gross. If it's any consolation, if I could go back in time and not make that disgusting accident, I would.

    My bad =\
