so, we're trying this cloth diaper thing out...

                                {Ugliest picture in the history of all time.}

Yeah, so, super excited! We've decided to try out the world of cloth diapering. That was our original plan with T, but then we didn't get diapers in time, got too comfortable with disposables, and ditched the idea of cloth. But I've felt the urge inching back in, ever so slightly, for awhile now. My friend, Heather, who is expecting a baby girl a couple of months after Sullivan will arrive + has a son T's age, decided she was going to give it a go again...and that pretty much sealed the deal for me. I figured it would be a lot easier to jump into it with a friend, so why not?

So, last weekend I purchased just a few supplies* (clearly I do not have any real stash to speak of!) to test the waters. I'm already totally dying to buy more, though, and we haven't even started yet. (I also ordered the cutest heart print diaper from an Etsy seller, which hasn't arrived yet, so is unfortunately not pictured. Rats.)

I'm glad we're giving this another shot. And I'm glad that Josh is even considering trying! He does an equal amount of diaper changes, so I didn't want to do this if he wasn't willing, but thankfully, he is okay with giving it a go.

Do you cloth diaper? Have you considered it?
Tell me everything. I'm basically obsessed now.
And just to prove that, here are a few diapers currently on my wish list (but don't buy them...because I'll kill you.):

*On my first order, I purchased BumGenius 4.0s from a Seconds Sale on Cottonbabies.com. We have decided that pocket diapers sound like the best fit for us!

  1. Yay!! Love CDing. Pockets are great! I found old fashioned prefolds and covers to be the best for us. They are easy to strip and clean and you can reuse the covers over and over again before washing them. And I'm lazy like that ;)

If you want to read some of my best tips, here's a post a wrote about it a while back: http://thiscameratellsmystory.blogspot.com/2012/07/tips-of-trade-cloth-diapers.html

    1. Thanks, girl! So far, it is going smoothly.
It's only day one, so I guess we'll see, but I have no complaints yet. : )

  3. A lot of parents at my work use these, and while they may not be the most pleasant things to deal with, they are way better for babies with any time of skin sensitivity and obviously they're way better for the environment. I'm glad you're doing it! Yay!

  5. I love cloth diapering! I thought that it might be a lot of extra work, but really, it's an extra few minutes during the day to spray them off and an extra load of laundry every few days! Good luck, I hope you love it, too!

    1. I thought the same, Stephanie!
I know it's only day one, but so far I'm just like...This is a breeze! I can't believe we didn't do it sooner. Haha.

  6. I knew we'd cloth diaper from day one, and I was SUPER gung-ho about it for a while... now I just wish Gianna would potty train! It's going well with Jackson now, and my suggestion for monetary efficiency and the fact that newborn boys go thru SO many diapers is to give prefolds a try.

I agree that pockets are the way to go for later on, and I hate prefolds for when kids are older (like 2 months +), but for newborn stages...they make cleaning up much easier and are cheaper.

Also. get a diaper sprayer. Just. Do.

I've got a good amount of posts on my blog about CD...there are tons of CD blogs out there, and I aimed to be one for a while until real life took over.

My other suggestion is look into entering giveaways if you have time... there's tons across the blogosphere and perhaps you could persuade various companies to give you some to try out in exchange for a review/giveaway on your blog if you were interested in doing that. I started with nothing and ended up getting over 100+ worth of stuff free.

Your post motivated me to do a two year cloth diaper update, it's been forever since I posted about them.

Another thing... we love Eco Spout for the detergent, it works with no need to antibacterial-ize, and doesn't leave a build-up.

Oh, the best link up for diaper giveaways is on change-diapers.com
